about

A song about the death of a young girl from sickness/contamination.

lyrics

On the day that she died
The bed was all covered in roses.
And the keys stood like soldiers
On the silent piano.
The dolls one by one came to wish her goodbye.

You said in your blindness:
“I’m the first one to do something finally.
I like staying home
And playing the piano
The thing I don’t like is to be left behind.”

If we look,
What will we find
Under these
Little stones of the earth.
Bones, polished and bright or covered in dirt?

It’s been years
Since you’ve died.
The house is all cobwebbed and silent.
And the keys stand like soldiers
On the silent piano,
The dolls have been packed up and all put away.
There’s a ghost haunts your room
Singing your melody
Weeping inconsolably every night.

If we look,
What will we find
Under these
Little stones of the earth.
Bones, polished and bright or covered in dirt?
